The Hour, Osama, Global Warming, and The Good Life

I've been so bored lately that I've been watching more and more TV than usual. Among my favorites are MTV gems The Hills and The Real World (sad, I know), and CBC's The Hour with George Stromboulopoulos of former Much Music Fame. George always has great guests and tonight was no exception. Samuel L. Jackson and Matt (Matthew) Damon were on the show. I also admire the way he delivers current headlines to those of us who may not be avid newspaper readers, but at the same time makes it fresh for those of us who are.

Osama has recently released a new tape, with some fairly general statements such as: "The life of all mankind is in danger because of the global warming resulting to a large degree from the emissions of the factories the major corporations," as George put it: Osama is jumping on the global warming bandwagon too.. and for good reason. In the same segment, he informed the audience that there is an glacier in the arctic equal in size to the state of Florida, that melted in 6 days, and some scientists predict that the arctic will have no glaciers left in as little as 25 years. That is disconcerting.. and I wonder if there is a way for "us" as humans to stop this from happening, if not at all, then in as little time as predicted.

On a lighter note: tonight I also caught part of the "Clash of the Titians" special on BET's 106th&Park. September 11th is not only the 6th anniversary of the worst terrorist attack North America has endured, but the day that 50 Cent and Kanye West release their highly anticipated albums. Now, as much as one has to give 50 his credit for making something from a whole lot of bullet wounds and because he may be superman for surviving that many shootings, the quality of their music, in my opinion, can hardly be compared.

I'm Definitely on team Kanye.

ANYWAY. On this "Clash of the Titans", Kanye explained this behavior was put out of context by the media and he said the reason he was acting like a two-year-old was because Britney got to open the show after he begged MTV to let him do it and after they said no to that, he begged them to let him perform on the main stage, but MTV only gave him on of the Suites to perform in at the awards. He blew his load lid after seeing Justin Timberlake get to perform on the main stage. Wha Wha Whaaaaa. All of the 50/MTV/Kanye Tantrum nonsense aside, 'Ye dropped his new video on BET. "Good Life" Featuring T-Pain is a good song but the video blew me away. One of the main reasons I like Kanye is because of his aesthetics. In comparison to other hip hop and rap artists out there he is always exposing his fans to some crazy new visual phenomenon. His new album artwork is unreal and he boasts himself as an avid art and illustration enthusiast. This video is not groundbreaking in it's concept, but it is certainly pushing hip hop videos into a new realm as far as artwork is concerned.

Thats enough out of me. Watch the video and enjoy the good life.
